This unique history was written by a Protestant between 1824 and 1827. What is most amazing is the dark picture the author
paints of the autrocities committed during the Reformation and the hypocracy of those who led it. Cobbett shows how the destruction
of Catholic monastic charity led to the impoverishment and virtual slavery of the English people. He also discusses how
many other events such as the income tax, national debt and diminishment as a world power are direct results
of the casting off of the Catholic faith. This is a powerful work that should not be missed, especially when so much is being done to
blacken the Church's historical reputation.
