Ad-libbing

Question What parts of the Mass is a priest allowed to ad-lib?

Answer According to the Sacramentary, the priest may use a prayer similar to those found in the Sacramentary at the introduction to the Penitential Rite. The priest may introduce the Prayers of the Faithful in his own words. Any place where the priest says "pray brethren", he may substitute another appropriate phrase.
